about our practice

Snoring and sleep apnea can stem from a variety of causes, but the results are always disruptive for the sufferer and nearly as disturbing and frightening for the apnea patient’s family members. Waiting Room

Our goal at Louisville Dental Sleep Medicine is to be an alternative treatment resource for patients with medically diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea

We use FDA approved oral appliances designed to help keep the airway open during sleep. I’ve been working with a variety of these appliances for the past nine years. I am currently (2007) the only dentist in Kentucky Board Certified by the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine in providing oral appliances for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.

Many of the patients we see are those with issues regarding CPAP intolerance/compliance. Additionally, we are seeing more patients with a mild to moderate sleep apnea diagnosis for whom, with their sleep physician’s recommendation, an oral appliance may be a first choice.

The oral appliances we use reposition the lower jaw forward during sleep, moving the tongue and other soft tissues forward, increasing the airway space. This limits apnea episodes and the sleep interruptions associated with them. Results of this type therapy have been very encouraging, with less loss of sleep, more restful nights, and less daytime fatigue.
